Future Doctors in Step to Bulgaria’s classroom
Step to Bulgaria has the great pleasure to introduce Tori (Victoria); Annie (Johanna) and Naomi who came from Germany to Sofia to study medicine in the Sofia Medicine University. Almost a year ago, they started their Bulgarian language and culture course highly motivated to learn the language not only well enough for their everyday life but also to communicate in their University study and practice. That’s why a big part of the lessons are focused on specific medical vocabulary and themes.
Here is what they shared about their learning process:
Tori: I feel much more confident now and this definitely helps me speak. Now I can say things, I can ask questions and not only in my everyday life but also at my university classes.
Annie: The lessons here help me communicate because during the lessons we are encouraged to speak all the time, to ask and answer questions, to improvise… Now I speak more often in the supermarkets or at the cafés and I try to order food only in Bulgarian.
Naomi: The classes help me not only with the language but also to understand the culture better because the lessons give us insight on traditions, lifestyle, eating habits of Bulgarians, etc. Also we have to communicate with Bulgarian patients now as we started training in hospitals. We need to speak, to ask specific questions and to understand the answers and the classes with Step to Bulgaria help us a lot to develop these communication skills.
The most difficult words for Annie, Naomi and Tori: дъщеря, ядки, мозък
Their favorite words: палачинка, заповядайте, защото
The funniest words for them: нататък, бизнесдама, Гърция
Успех с медицината и българския език и култура, момичета! Страхотни сте!
